Winners of the 2013 AIA San Francisco Design Awards

The AIA San Francisco chapter has unveiled the results of the 2013 AIA San Francisco Design Awards. The program honors outstanding contributions to the built environment in the categories of Excellence in Architecture, Excellence in Interior Architecture, Energy + Sustainability, Historic Preservation, Unbuilt Design, Special Achievement, Young Architect, and the inaugural 25 Year Award.

Excellence in Architecture

Honor awards were given to HMC Architects for Orchard School Library and Mark Cavagnero Associates for SF Jazz Center. 

Merit awards were given to Fougeron Architecture for Flip House, Jensen Architects for Oakland Museum of California Event Space, and David Baker + Partners Architects for the Richardson Apartments. 

Citation awards were given to Ogrydziak Prillinger Architects for Ourcadia, and to WRNS Studio for both UCSF Medical Center Parking Structure and Hayes Valley Playground.

Excellence in Interior Architecture

Honor awards were given to Min | Day for Bemis InfoShop, and to IwamotoScott Architecture for both Lightfold, ONE Kearny Lobby, and Obscura Digital. 

Merit awards were given to Haas Architecture for ZERO1 Garage and IwamotoScott Architecture for Heavybit Industries. 

Citation awards were given to Gensler for SFO Terminal 2 and jones | haydu for The Offices of Buck O'Neill Builders, Inc.

Historic Preservation

Kelly Cullen Community by Gelfand Partners Architects (Photo: Mark Luthringer)

Honor awards were given to Architectural Resources Group for Inn at the Presidio and Gelfand Partners Architects for Kelly Cullen Community. 

Merit awards were given to Marcy Wong Donn Logan Architects for Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center and Architectural Resources Group and Tom Eliot Fisch for North Branch Library. 

Unbuilt Design

Refuse Reclamation by Matthew Adams (Image courtesy Matthew Adams)

Matthew Adams recieved an honor award for Refuse Reclamation. 

A merit award was given to Aa Studio (Aubrey Davidson and Anesta Iwan) for de[con]struct. 

Citation awards were given to Liz Lessig for Territories of Nowhere and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for ACT Strand Theater.

Special Achievement

The Exploratorium, Laurence Kornfield, David Meckel, FAIA and Community Housing Partnership were recognized with special achievement awards.

Energy + Sustainability

Lands End Lookout by EHDD (Photo: Michael David Rose)

An honor award was given to EHDD for The Lands End Lookout. 

Ratcliff Architects recieved a citation award for DeAnza College Media & Learning Center.

Young Architect

HOK's Justin Kelly was honored with the young architect award. 

25 Year Award

25 Year Award SOM recieved the inaugural 25 year award for The Crown Zellerbach Headquarters.

All winning projects are featured online at aiasf.org/awards, included in a print publication available at the AIASF office, and will be showcased in an exhibition May 9 - July 26 at the AIA San Francisco gallery (130 Sutter Street, Suite 600).
