Wooden residential skyscraper in the Hagastaden plot by Berg | C.F. Møller & DinellJohansson

Berg | C.F. Møller and DinellJohansson recently won the competition to design a future residential landmark for Stockholm. Hosted by Swedish real estate group HSB, three competing teams were required to propose three innovative residential buildings for three central locations in the city.

The winning team's proposals that caught the jury's attention include a wooden residential skyscraper said to be the tallest of its kind. The winners will work with HSB to develop and build the residential complex by 2023, in time for HSB's 100th anniversary.

"Berg | C.F. Møller Architects' consistent idea was to create a complex of residents to accommodate a diversity of people, ranging from students and families with children to pensioners - a complex which creates ideal conditions for community spirit and busy modern lifestyles, including a supermarket, café, restaurant, fitness centre and library facilities on site."

"The complex should therefore welcome visitors and also provide attractive outdoor spaces. The complex will be sustainable, not only during the construction process and in the choice of materials, but also in terms of the residents' lifestyle."

"'Berg | C.F. Møller Architects/DinellJohansson have taken up the gauntlet to create future residential housing. The team has an innovative approach to the interior design of the apartments, the architectonic design of the building itself and the building as part of its urban context,' wrote the panel of judges, which comprised several representatives from HSB Stockholm with Stockholm's former City Architect Per Kallstenius."

"'The design encompasses a vision to make the building beneficial to residents and the general public and the team has created a well-thought-out concept for a housing association which is ready to address future challenges.'"

"In addition to DinellJohansson, Berg | C.F. Møller Architects cooperated on these projects with Tyréns (consulting) and three other companies, AKT, DeBrand and Transsolar.

The other teams were Rosenbergs Arkitekter in partnership with Utopia Arkitekter and Equator Stockholm with Mojang."
