Materials & Applications in Los Angeles has some fun social Saturday night events lined up for the entire month of August! The four-part VIS-Á-VIS performance series will include dance, music, a video and sound installations, and a film screening.
Starting August 9, all events will take place in the Materials & Applications space at the La Cage aux Folles, a 346-piece metal pipe temporary playground installation designed by Warren Techentin Architecture (WTARCH).

Saturday, August 9
LA Fort Presents:Daedelus (DJ set), Lawrence Lindell, Matt McGuire and Will Walden (StaG): Starting our VIS-Á-VIS performance series with a night of experimental and electronic music presented by The LA Fort, a multi-use arts and music co-op located in DTLA. Tracy Abbott Szatan / IN/VISIBLE: IN/VISIBLE is a video installation and performance in which Tracy Abbott Szatan will explore select spaces through the choreography of body, light source, and Mylar reflections and refractions. Further event details here.

bel-air / New York Memo: Using field recordings taken around New York City by DJs from the Brooklyn based radio station, bel-air, founded by Greg Ruben, the DJs will create an installation of NYC's sonic environment in La Cage's courtyard. The recordings, which were mostly captured surreptitiously using the iPhone's Voice Memos app, will be presented in a longform, looping, multi-channel format.
Ear Cleaning workshop [15 people max]: Refresh your critical listening faculties with Greg Ruben. Ear Cleaning is a teaching methodology created by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer. For workshop ticket info and additional details, click here.

Eugene Kotlyarenko presents: "Nobody Wants to Play With Me" (Werner Herzog) + rare feature film. Join us for a film screening curated by Los Angeles filmmaker Eugene Kotlyarenko. The night will show "Nobody Wants to Play With Me" (A short film by Werner Herzog) followed by a rare and captivating surprise feature just for the birds and all their friends.
