Talk show host and journalist Charlie Rose has been announced as the 2014 recipient of the esteemed Vincent Scully Prize. Established in 1999 by the National Building Museum and named after Professor Vincent Scully to honor his legacy and work, the prize recognizes exemplary practice, scholarship, or criticism in architecture, historic preservation, and urban design.

As anchor and executive editor of Charlie Rose and co-anchor of CBS This Morning, Rose will receive the award in recognition for his insightful interviews with the world's leading thinkers that explore the value of good design as well as the growth and shaping of the urban cityscape.

"'One of the great joys of spending twenty-five years at the table is meeting a cross-section of the best in culture and science and technology," said Mr. Rose. "I have a special place for the men and women who inspire us with the buildings they create. Architecture is a passion of mine and I’ve been proud to know not only architects but also those who teach, assess, and love great buildings. Architecture is one of the reflections of the permanence of a civilization. I am indeed honored to be the recipient of the Vincent Scully Prize, named for a man I have known, admired, and interviewed.'"

A gala celebrating Mr. Rose and the award will take place at the National Building Museum on November 18, 2014. Architect Frank Gehry, former director of the New York City Department of City Planning Amanda Burden, and president and CEO of PBS Paula Kerger will be present to offer remarks on Rose.

On the following evening of November 19 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Mr. Rose will present a lecture during a public award ceremony. Rose will discuss his experiences with many of the world's most prominent architects, and then be interviewed by writer and public radio host Kurt Andersen.
