Every year, Arcaid Images honors the very best architectural photographers and their expertise and creativity in the unique medium of architectural photography. Nick Hufton and Al Crow of Hufton + Crow were announced as the 2014 overall winners of the Arcaid Images Architectural Photographer of the Year award at the end of World Architecture Festival in Singapore on October 3.
Hufton + Crow won the prestigious award -- and $3,000 prize money -- for their interior photograph of Zaha Hadid Architects' Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan. Interestingly enough, they also received a runner-up spot for their exterior photograph of the same building. The three additional runners-up announced were Victor Romeo, Inigo Bujedo Aguirre, and Joao Morgado.
The international panel of judges featured: Kristina Julia Bacht, Amy Croft, Sir Terry Farrell, Bjarne Hammer, David Jenkins, Ken Schluchtmann, and Calvin Tsao and Zack McKown. During the shortlisting process, judges focused on the photographers' composition, sense of place, atmosphere, and use of scale.
