When Los Angeles-based photographer Michael Kelley is not on assignment, he enjoys venturing out to Iceland, one of his favorite places to visit in the world. Whenever he visits the island every year, he snaps new photos that expose Iceland's unique architectural heritage and its serene natural landscapes, which he has compiled into an ongoing stunning photography project called "Living: Island Style".
If you're in Los Angeles, a selection of Kelley's photos from the project are currently on exhibit at the AIA|LA Gallery until January 31, 2016.
Read on for more.
"Living: Island Style" is Michael Kelley's refreshing visual take on Iceland's architectural heritage and the rich history behind it. "Owing to its location near the Arctic circle and the unparalleled environmental conditions faced by settlers, Iceland’s architecture evolved to form distinct styles that aren’t found anywhere else on earth," as Kelley describes on his website.
"By combining photographic and digital art-based techniques, the project seeks to show these incredible pieces of architecture across Iceland as they’ve never been seen before," Kelley's website states.
As Kelley goes on more trips and takes more photos, he will release a fine-art book series containing the photos, as well as commentary that discusses the social and architectural history of Iceland.
