Visually changing skylines aside, new sky-high structures get a shot at prestigious recognition in the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's Tall Building Awards. The yearly awards highlight noteworthy tall-building projects worldwide and the impact they have on inhabitants and their urban surroundings, as well as innovative design and construction methods that push the industry forward. Out of 132 submissions, the 2016 winning projects were recognized for innovative solutions regarding challenging site constraints, sustainability, seismicity, wind forces, and mixed functionality.

The expert jury panel selected winners in five categories: Best Tall Building Awards – Regional (Americas, Asia & Australasia, Europe, and Middle East & Africa); the Urban Habitat Award; the Innovation Award, the Performance Award; and the 10 Year Award. Recipients of the Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award and the Fazlur R. Khan Lifetime Achievement Medal will be revealed on a later date.

This fall, winners will be presented with their awards during the CTBUH 15th Annual Awards Symposium at the Illinois Institute of Technology on November 3. But the fun won't stop there! During the Awards Ceremony & Dinner, one of the four Best Tall Building regional winners will be crowned Best Tall Building Worldwide 2016.

Check out the winning projects below, as well as this year's category finalists. Perhaps you'll recognize a few...
