AIA Philadelphia celebrated the best in design by its member firms at Loews Philadelphia hotel Thursday, October 16, with the 2008 Awards for Design Excellence. Presented in Gold, Silver, Honor, and Recognition categories for both completed, unbuilt, preservation, and community design projects, the awards are given for projects in the Philadelphia area and around the world.
Hundreds of projects were submitted for consideration by AIA Philadelphia’s member firms and were placed on view in an exhibition in late October in the rotunda at the Shops at Liberty Place in Center City Philadelphia. In addition to the Design Awards, AIA Philadelphia presented the Young Architect Award to Daryn Edwards, AIA, and John Cluver, AIA, and the John Harbeson Award to Arlene Matzkin, AIA, and Don Matzkin, AIA.
The jury for this year’s awards comprised architects from Minneapolis, MN, including Thomas Meyer, FAIA, of Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, LTD; Matt Kreilich, AIA, of Julie Snow Architects, Inc.; Joan Soranno, AIA, of HGA Architects and Engineers; and Jennifer Yoos, AIA, LEED AP, of Vincent James Associates Architects.
