The American Architecture Prize is a global platform that honors innovation and creativity in architecture. The mission of AAP is to celebrate and endorse creativity, design excellence, innovation and exceptional achievements across architectural fields.

The inaugural AAP - Firm of the Year Award allowed the AAP to honor firms for their total body of work, considering their specializations and respective resources. Small, medium and large companies each were recognized on their own terms.

Kossmann.dejong won the title of the 2017 Interior Design Firm of The Year.

Kossmann.dejong exhibition architects offer a unique approach to interior and exhibition design—telling stories through well-designed spatial experiences. The firm’s innovative approach to storytelling results in narrative environments that translate information, ideas and objects into thought-provoking, spatial stories that inform and seduce, involve and engage, inspire and transform visitors. Founded in 1998 by Herman Kossmann and Mark de Jong, both graduates in architecture from Technical University in Delft (NL), Kossmann.dejong has grown into an award-winning international design studio based in Amsterdam with approximately 25 employees. The firm creates temporary and permanent exhibitions for museums, visitor centres, historic sites, brand experiences and interiors for airports, hotels, large-scale events, and other public places. The subjects of the firm’s exhibitions are diverse, ranging from architecture, to psychiatry, to children’s books, to maritime history, to art, to biology and beyond.

No matter the subject, Kossmann.dejong’s designs are characterized by strong connections between content and imagination achieved by their design team that frequently includes architects, curators, interior designers, lighting experts, writers, interactive designers, graphic designers, landscape designers, communication experts, artists, craftspeople,  lmmakers and content experts such as historians or scientists. With full dedication, a sense of experimentation and high ambitions of the whole team, Kossmann.dejong creates engaging spaces custom-made for every project.

“We seek to push the boundaries of our field by inventing new, better, and more interdisciplinary ways to tell inspiring stories.’’ Herman Kossmann & Mark de Jong, creative directors Kossmann.dejong
