New architecture and design competitions: Forge Prize, Warming Huts, AIA COTE Top Ten for Students, and Driehaus Form-Based Code Award

By Alexander Walter|

Thursday, Jul 15, 2021

This design for a pedestrian bridge in San Diego's Balboa Park by Hunter Ruthrauff won the 2021 Forge Prize. The latest edition is now open for submissions (details below).

In this week's curated picks of architecture and design competitions listed on Bustler, we have included four challenges calling for form-based codes that promote people-scaled development, huts and art installations for Winnipeg's famed winter competition, outstanding steel structures by emerging architects, and student design studio projects that embrace issues of health, sustainability, and equity.

2021 Driehaus Form-Based Code Award
Register/Submit Deadline: Friday, Aug 6, 2021

"The Richard H. Driehaus Form-Based Code Award is back for its 15th year! If your community has adopted a form-based code that is promoting people-scaled development and a mix of uses, your code may be a great example for others! The Driehaus Award recognizes exemplary form-based codes that advance the practice of form-based zoning in both composition and implementation. Both newly-adopted and established codes showing positive built results are eligible. FBCI encourages applications for codes that have been adopted for disinvested neighborhoods or communities of color, or that have been drafted by minority professionals."

The American Institute of Steel Construction is looking for designs that embrace steel as a primary structural component and capitalize on steel’s ability to increase the project’s speed."
