Archhive-Books' Portable Reading Rooms Architecture Competition Final Registration Deadline is Approaching!

Tuesday, Sep 10, 2019

The rise in popularity of digital devices and e-readers still hasn’t diminished the demand for printed, physical books. Research has shown that the physical act of handling a book, as opposed to holding an e-reader, allows for greater comprehension and understanding. Even reading printed books to children has benefits over digital devices, with studies finding that children absorb more information and are less distracted when they are read from printed books.

The rise in popularity of digital devices and e-readers still hasn’t diminished the demand for printed, physical books.

The  Archhive-Books' Portable Reading Rooms architecture competition looks to further encourage reading in communities around the world, tasking participants to design a portable structure that could be embedded within existing public spaces in multiple locations. These Reading Rooms would function as an intimate meditative space in which people can read and exchange books.

Selected city councils from across the globe with be invited to choose their favourite designs, and will work with the winning teams to construct the Reading Rooms in their city. Participants may design Reading Rooms for specific locations, however those that are versatile enough to suit multiple locations will be preferred.  The Archhive-Books' Portable Reading Rooms architecture competition is open now until October 18.
