Three finalists have been announced for the 2022 Radical Innovation Awards, which seek "compelling innovations in travel, hospitality, and architecture." The 16th edition of the annual competition was open to professionals and students, asking participants to speculate on innovative ideas for the future of the hospitality and travel industries.

Out of 80 project entires across 20 countries, the three chosen finalists will now be subject to public voting from October 6th to 13th. Winners will be announced on October 19th at an awards dinner in New York City. Below, we have republished the three finalists under consideration and their project details.

"Leveraging vertical architecture minimizes the footprint in areas where land is precious in value and availability, reducing the environmental impact on the surrounding land and decreasing flights by encouraging domestic travel," the designers say. "Aera's design includes seven districts, dining, art, fashion, drama, garden, wellness, and family, and the sky deck includes a pool with a bird's eye view of the city to intrigue travelers and locals."

"The eco-floating hotel is inspired by the sea with which it is associated in the first degree in terms of form and design principle," the designers say. "The idea of the vortex, which reflects the rotational effect found on the surface of the water to the upper cover of the structure, does not only remain in this layer and seeps into the mass with a capillary effect."

"The Concept 'Merani' is not Flying Tourism and neither a Flying hotel," the designers say. "A hotel can be easily removed without any ecological damage as a consequence of its presence, accompanying guests during their journey/stay -on land, in the air and on the water. Here, you will have the unique opportunity to enjoy the untouched nature, staying in luxurious conditions. You can’t really do that in any other kinds of tourism."
