The Al Wathba Wetland Reserve is packed full of natural wildlife. Though covering only 5 square km in total, over 250 varieties of birds call it home, including the spectacular migratory flamingos that flock to the site in their thousands.
The Al Wathba Reserve is more than just wetlands, with a varied landscape that includes salt flats known as sabkhas, fossilized sands, and dunes that are densely populated with animal and plant life.
In collaboration with Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), the Abu Dhabi Flamingo Observation Tower competition is calling for submissions for designs for an observation tower and accompanying boardwalk so that visitors can fully immerse themselves in the stunning wildlife of the reserve.
Projects will need to be mindful of the unique environment, as well as have the potential to become an iconic landmark in the region.
The Abu Dhabi Flamingo Observation Tower competition is open now until April 30, 2019, with winners of the US $6,000 prize to be announced on July 18, 2019. Visit flamingotower.beebreeders.com for more information.
