Like any other industry, architecture has a business side that can help entrepreneurial architects prepare for what lies ahead. Focusing on the significance of entrepreneurship in the profession, the Architecture Business Plan competition invited licensed U.S. and Canadian architects -- including those who own young firms -- to write up an executive plan that aims for long-term entrepreneurial success in running their practices.
The competition attracted over 100 registered participants who submitted a total of 51 Executive Summaries. After evaluation, the jury cast their votes for the following six finalists:
- Seth Anderson, Ascent Architecture & Interiors (Bend, Oregon)
- Katherine Darnstadt, Latent Design (Chicago, Illinois)
- Ryan Hansanuwat, RHad Studio (Cedar Park, Texas)
- Scott Larrick, ELEVEN:59 STUDIO (Austin, Texas)
- Zane Muntz, DESIGNCREW (Des Moines, Iowa)
- Alexander Witko and Courtney Hunt, Organelle Design (Brooklyn, New York)
More info below.
The six finalists will present their full business plan to the jury in Chicago on Wednesday, June 25. The winner will be announced the following day on June 26.
The first prize winner will receive US$10,000 while the second place winner will receive US$2,500. Additional honorable mentions may be awarded upon the jury's discretion. Select finalists may also have the option to receive additional business coaching and investment.
