SWA Group announced as winners of the Sandy Hook Memorial Competition

A commission appointed by the town of Newtown, Connecticut recently announced SWA Group as the winner of the of The Sandy Hook Memorial Competition for a new memorial honoring the victims and survivors of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The design, titled The Clearing, was officially recommended and will now await final approvals.

Located on a 5-acre site near the elementary school, the memorial consists of a landscape mixed with trails, lakes, and winding paths around a reflecting pool. SWG Group's design features the 26 victim's names carved into the stone edge of the reflecting pool.

The memorial will be paid for using money donated to the town after the mass shooting. The commission plans on dedicating the memorial by December of 2019.
