The City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Downtown Council announced on Sept. 19 that New York firm James Corner Field Operations and its team have been selected to carry out the $40 million redesign of Nicollet Mall, a major cultural and commercial center in Downtown Minneapolis. The winning proposal, called the "Nicollet Walk", is a 12-block stretch that divides the Nicollet Mall into three sections: Live, Work, and Play.

James Corner presented his team's project at a public event last Tuesday with the two other finalists: Daoust Lestage of Montreal and Tom Leader Studio from Berkeley, CA. The selection committee received 20 submissions from around the world before the three finalists were chosen. Past projects of James Corner Fields Operations include the High Line in New York City and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

The winning James Corner Field Operations design team also includes Coen + Partners, Julie Snow Architects, Nelson\Nygaard, SRF Engineers, Tillotson Design Associates, Kestrel Design Group, and Cost Construction Services.

Once the Nicollet Walk receives approval from the City Council on Oct. 4, the City and the Minneapolis Downtown Council will work with the James Corner team on finalizing an official design. The public will also have opportunities to share their feedback for the Nicollet Mall's redesign.
