Media artist and designer Refik Anadol has unveiled a new immersive installation titled Machine Hallucinations - Nature Dreams for the Centre Pompidou-Metz that continues the experimentations with data and AI technology central to his recent NFT releases, site-specific projections, and a string of other public art pieces he calls “data sculptures.”

In a first since its opening in May of 2010, the solo exhibition will take over the Shigeru Ban-designed museum’s Grand Nave in a “radical visualization of an alternative dimension of the natural world” that offers itself as a simultaneous 3D “representation of our digitized memories of nature for the future” authored by Anadol in collaboration with Google’s Quantum AI research team.

It comes complete with a sound experience created using data generated by the quantum noise of the space through the incorporation of technology capable of applying the complex laws of physics to a set of over 2 million publicly-available images. Like other data-driven projects conceived of alongside the tech giant, Anadol hopes his latest digital piece will demonstrate the considerable potential of digital information as it is applied to the fields of environmental studies, design, and architecture.

The exhibition is being curated by Centre Pompidou-Metz head Chiara Parisi and will officially be on view from June 11th until the 29th of August. Tickets will be allotted based on the number of available spaces open.
