Renzo Piano to design new Kum & Go corporate HQ in Iowa

By Bustler Editors|

Thursday, Nov 20, 2014

Renzo Piano Building Workshop will be the design architect for the new corporate headquarters of Midwest convenience retailer chain Kum & Go. The 120,000 sq.foot building will be located at the Pappajohn Sculpture Park in downtown Des Moines, Iowa.

After competing teams submitted written proposals, six finalists were interviewed last month before RPBW won the project. In the next few months, a local architect and general contractor will be chosen as the design process begins.

More details below.

Kum & Go selected Renzo Piano Building Workshop for their "amount of expertise in designing buildings with open, collaborative space that utilize natural light to connect with its outdoor environment [as well as their] proven ability to build lasting, yet flexible buildings that retain functionality as workspaces evolve over time.

Founder and 1998 Pritzker Prize laureate Renzo Piano has said that 'there must be a symbiotic relationship between the collective needs of the public and the personal needs of the individual, further elaborated in the rapport between the building and its environmental context.'"
