The winning concepts for the city of Kaliningrad in Russia

The results are out for the competition to redevelop the historic city center of Kaliningrad in Russia. Organized by the Kaliningrad regional government as part of the 'The Heart of the City' project, the open two-stage competition was held to find the most suitable architectural and urban-planning solution for Kaliningrad and its surrounding neighborhoods.
The competition began with 39 companies from 15 countries in the running, followed by 19 entries submitted in the final stage. The following teams were then selected as winners:
- 1st prize: Studio 44 + the Institute of Territorial Development (Saint-Petersburg, Russia)
- 2nd prize: Devillers et Associes (France) + Off-the-grid (Moscow, Russia) + Wall (Moscow, Russia)
- 3rd prize (tie): Trevor Skempton (Great Britain)
- 3rd prize (tie): HOSPER Sweden (Sweden)

The Kaliningrad government will continue to work with winning teams to formulate a consolidated masterplan derived from their proposals. This masterplan will then be included in Kaliningrad's General Plan for up to 2035.
