Santiago Calatrava has collected another accolade, this time the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from the LEAF Awards. The award recognizes an architect for their long-time contribution and outstanding influence in the field. In the past, other notable architects like Moshe Safdie (2015), Peter Hall (2014) and Daniel Libeskind (2012) were presented with the achievement prize.
“LEAF is honored to recognize Santiago Calatrava for his unique vision and ability to transform cities through impactful design,” award representatives said in a statement. “From New York to Rio to Doha, Mr. Calatrava has crafted spaces that are both visually striking and forward-thinking. His work, both iconic and inspirational, has left an indelible mark on the discipline.”
Calatrava will be presented with the award during a ceremony in London on October 14.
Most recently, Calatrava's iconic Turning Torso won the CTBUH 10-Year Award. He also had the winning proposal for this new tower in Dubai, which will reportedly surpass the Burj Khalifa in height “by a notch”.
