No matter what's happening in the world these days and no matter what year it is, standing up for human rights is a value that many people across the globe will never give up. One of the most well-known emblems of civil justice is the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. In light of the monument's 130th anniversary, competition organizer archasm launched the “Liberty Museum” ideas competition, which challenged designers in envisioning a Liberty Museum for Liberty Island.

The competition attracted 268 registrations from professional and student architects worldwide. In the end, three teams representing Korea/USA, Bangladesh, and China were the prize winners. Honorable mentions were also announced.

Have a look at the winning entries below.

1ST PRIZE: Jungwoo Ji, Bosuk Hur, Suk Lee (Korea and USA)

1ST PRIZE: Jungwoo Ji, Bosuk Hur, Suk Lee (Korea and USA)

Jury comment: “The entry ‘wins’ by the first look, the image of theses giant water lilies next to the statue of liberty animates the imagination and somehow even touches you emotionally – even before you take a closer look to find out what this is all about [...] Once you start getting further into the proposal, this first image is enriched by the idea to make the units movable, controlled by tweets, showing ‘the state of the world’ in terms of human rights and social justice [...] While these remarks are only concerned with the outside and long-distance view, the section and the close-up renderings show that the spaces between, below, above and even in the ‘units’ (the authors speak of ‘water droplets’) would be as interesting and inspiring.” — Christian Remes

2ND PRIZE: Maherul Kader Prince, Nabila Ferdousi (Bangladesh)
