Luxury ceramic designs for the latest trend of seaside and niche tourism: lighthouses

With the advent of GPS, and sonar and automatic navigation, lighthouses have foregone their once-crucial role in shipping and security. Having lost their original significance, many of these towers have been abandoned and left for ruin. To this end, a number of projects, both public and private, have been put forward with the aim of renovating these historic landmarks and restoring their relevance. In 2015, the Italian government offered up an unrivaled portfolio of lighthouses and other historic properties to the highest bidders in the hopes of turning them into assets. Their remote and charming locations—not to mention those views!—make them the ripe for conversion into luxury resorts, boutique hotels, or even a quirky Airbnb rental.

Following this trend, Gruppo Romani, a company specializing in the production and sale of ceramic finishes for architecture, has launched Lighthouse Interior. In partnership with CODE—Competitions for Designers, the brief was for a new collection of furnishing accessories and pottery that draw inspiration from the coastal towers, and conceived for this network of seaside accommodation  facilities. Check out the winning projects below!
