Our latest Europan 12 feature is "Mannheim's Connection" by KH Studio, led by Alessandro delli Ponti and Ilaria Novielli. The team's proposal won first prize in the overall Europan Europe competition for the Mannheim site in Germany.
The proposal is a continuation of a Greater Paris urban/metro research project by Alessandro delli Ponti. He began the research in 2011 as a basis for scientific publications and has been working to further develop the project with his current collaboration with Atelier International du Grand Paris.
Check out the team's proposal below.
Project description:
"'Mannheim’s Connection' is the story of a limit (B38) growing to become a vector of urban continuity. The systemic strategy it presents, unveils potential relations between urban areas until now disconnected. The new intense mixed sector alternates newly built areas with structuring green voids, giving an intense depth of field to the bi-dimensional image of B38’s entrance to Mannheim. The progressive development of a new intermodal public transport network, locally optimizes the accessibility to the site while amplifying its attractiveness at a regional scale. 'Mannheim's Connection' is an open evolutionary story, with structuring episodes and a series of urban protagonists gradually emerging from a process that re-combines inherited urban forms, innovative mobility and enhanced landscapes."
