RIBA Manser Medal renamed to House of the Year, winner to be broadcast on British TV

RIBA recently announced the renaming of its prestigious Manser Medal competition to the RIBA House of the Year award, with agreement from the Manser family according to the Institute. Established in 2001, the medal was originally named in honor of former RIBA President and notable home designer Michael Manser. The House of the Year award still has the same purpose: to distinguish the most innovative house design by a UK-based architect.

Since the 2015 longlisted homes were revealed back in June, there's been a change in plans for the rest of this year's competition. Starting November 4, RIBA will work with Britain's Channel 4 for a weekly TV series called "Grand Designs: RIBA House of the Year" featuring the longlisted homes.

Scroll down for more.

During the four-week broadcast, the shortlisted homes will be announced. Finally, the House of the Year winner will be revealed on TV on November 25. Airing the series on national TV is a timely move, especially when the availability of British public housing continues to be a debated topic in the country.

RIBA President Stephen Hodder stated: 'The series along with the prize’s new name will give even greater public understanding and clarity about the prize and its intentions – to reward and raise the bar for well-designed houses. We look forward to announcing the winner of the RIBA House of the Year in November.'
