The Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) has announced four finalist projects for the 2022 MCHAP.emerge award, which is now in its fourth edition.

The quartet was taken from a group of 10 shortlisted frontrunners which came exclusively from Latin American countries for the first time in the prize’s history. The jury shared that this year’s contest, the first since the pandemic necessitated a two-year hiatus, offered an “extreme diversity” they say was the result of each project's ability to “respond to their local conditions and offer lessons for a whole continent.”

Winners of the prize will go on to a one-year research professorship at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and a $25,000 grant to be put toward their ongoing teaching and research activities. A conversation with the 2022 finalists will be held in person at IIT’s S.R. Crown Hall on September 20th from 1:00–5:00 pm CST, with the overall winner being named the following night in a special awards dinner. The victorious project will then go on to compete in the MCHAP main prize competition, which is to be announced next April.
