It’s late spring already, and that means the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects is back with the seventh edition of its annual AIA|LA Residential Architecture Awards.
Home design projects from across the city, country, and even abroad were given Awards of Honor, Merit, or Citation across ten separate categories.
Among the winners, KAA, Woods + Dangaran, and Laney LA, were recognized with Honor Awards for their individual contributions in the three Single-Family categories. The chapter’s Climate Positive Award was split between Kendall Architecture Planning + Design and KoningEizenberg for their Flor 401 Lofts and Culver City Townhomes designs respectively, and OFFICEUNTITLED was cited for its new The Fitz apartment complex located on Fairfax Avenue in West Hollywood. Woods + Dangaran was the most popular firm with three total Awards.
The rise of ADUs was also acknowledged by the inclusion of two projects from Bunch Design and Shin Shin Architecture, which both received Merit Awards for their superlative designs.
The jury said the group altogether "demonstrates design excellence for all residential types," and commended the projects in the Affordable Housing category for their "ongoing commitment to alleviating the housing crisis through new shelter that expands possibilities for those who have lived without."
Twenty-eight projects were named overall. The chapter's full list can be viewed here. Scroll down to see a selection of this year's winners.
