New NYSID exhibition posits on the romanticism of hand-drawn designs

This fall, a new exhibition at the New York School of Interior Design is unpacking the undying influence of hand drawing on interior architecture and the design professions.

The work of twelve established designers will be presented along with other drawings and design portfolios from the NYSID’s archives. Curators Donald Albrecht and Thomas Mellins are behind The Persistence of Hand Drawing: Interior Rendering Today, which takes place from now until April 3rd, 2025. They say it’s important as a way to highlight "both the artisanry and ideation that the nearly wholesale adoption of CAD by the design industry has marginalized."

Drawings from Nina Cooke John, Hilary Sample, Michael Meredith of MOS Architects, and Genevieve Irwin of Peter Pennoyer Architects are among those highlighted.
