ArchiteXX invites students to submit 1-minute student films highlighting women in architecture

By Bustler Editors|

Monday, Jun 3, 2019

Fay Kellogg (1871 - 1918) one of several female architects who helped to open the field of architecture to women.

The non-profit organization ArchiteXX focuses on highlighting and discussing gender equity in architecture by bridging the gap between academics and practice. Founded by Lori Brown, associate professor of architecture at Syracuse University and Nina Freedman of Dreamland Creative Projects, both women strive to facilitate and create open dialogues towards inclusion within the profession.

This year ArchiteXX calls for students to submit 1 to 2-minute films about female architects, defined expansively. Through these submissions, the project continues the efforts of writing women into architectural history. According to the ArchiteXX team, "These are women who were educated as architects or educate others to become architects. Women from wide and diverse practices, demonstrating the myriad ways women trained as architects have participated and continue to participate in the built environment and design related fields.

Students must include the chosen architect's work has inspired/impacted/or influenced them and their work. Each of the finished films will be reviewed by an esteemed jury of architects, design professionals, and industry leaders. A selection of the films will be publicly screened during New York City's Archtober month-long focus on architecture and will be available online once they have screened.
