Last April YAC launched Plastic Monument; a challenging call for ideas aiming to design an itinerant installation that would contrubite in raising awareness on the topic of plastic pollution.
Many designers from all over the world submitted their ideas to a distinguished panel of Jurors made of, among the others, Kengo Kuma, Mandy Barker, Maria Cristina Finucci, Carlo Ratti and Italo Rota.
The Romanian team "VATRAA" was awarded the 1st Prize consisting in € 8,000 and the construction of the itinerant installation. Their project idea for the Plastic Monument evokes the oldest form of a structure inherited by our ancestrors, poses a contrast between the eternity of a trilithon and the single use of plastic and highlights the fact that plastic waste may be our legacy to many generations to come.
The 2nd prize of € 4,000 was rewarded to the Ukrainian team “Fresh and Free” and the 3rd prize of € 2,000 to the French team “Solene Biche-Cais”. The 2 Gold Mentions, of € 500 each, have been assigned to the Polish teams “Maciej Grelewicz” and “Magda Redzinska”. 10 Honorable Mentions and 31 Finalist Mentions follow up as the completion of this huge and international podium.
