Rwanda Chapel: a monument for the community; a place for people to bond and unite, regardless of race and history, through gathering, prayers, and contemplation

Last March YAC launched Rwanda Chapel, a call for ideas dedicated to the community of Rukomo. It aimed at donating a church to believers and to the local religious community.
Number of architects and designers faced this architectural challenge and proposed their solution for a building that shall become a symbol of global solidarity and cooperation.
Eduardo Souto de Moura, Peter Eisenman, Tatiana Bilbao, Simon Frommenwiler, Sol Madridejos, Sean Godsell and other distinguished professionals were on the Jury Panel for this international contest. The winner teams were rewarded a total cash prize of € 15,000: the 1st prize (€ 8,000) has been awarded to the Chinese team “LI & HUANG”, the 2nd prize (€ 4,000) to the Chinese team “ZAI” and the 3rd prize (€ 2,000) to the Birmanian team “Bithuka”. The 2 Gold Mentions, of € 500 each, have been assigned to the Kosovarian team “Krosa” and to the Serbian team “Studio Petkovic”. 10 Honorable Mentions and 34 Finalist Mentions follow up as the completion of this huge and international podium.
