This spring and summer at the Neutra VDL House in Los Angeles, multidisciplinary artist Maayan Elyakim is presenting Game of Goose, a site-specific exhibition dotted with works inspired by the Austrian-born Immigré who worked at midcentury to create some of the most spatially dynamic residences in the Modernist architecture movement.

From April 26 through July 20th, the VDL House invites viewers to "[delve] into the lesser-known dimensions" of the 3,500-square-foot Silver Lake landmark, which has been reintepreted as a board game. In a preview, curator Dan Handel says the exhibition "explores movement, chance, and shifting mental landscapes, transforming the modernist residence into a reflective and dynamic experience."

Inside, a journey inspired by Neutra’s delicate interplay of carefully designed boundaries that allow for constant fluctuations of movement, social interactions, and the elevation of certain mental states in line with nature, Elyakim adds his work in the exhibition thus “resonates this duality in microcosm.”

The exhibit features a number of striking objects, including a modified version of Neutra’s original Camel table, that confer an ephemerality on the space, along with a selection of others designed to channel the house's energy. Together, they serve as talismans for the experiential component that transpires along an "intensifying gradient" from the ground floor to roof level.

The VDL House is open on Saturdays from 11AM to 3PM. Maayan Elyakim was born in 1985 and lives and works in Tel Aviv.
