The world of architecture and design kept spinning really fast in 2015 keeping us busy with the latest news in the realm of competitions and events. From cultural centers in Afghanistan to Bauhaus museums in Germany, from skyscraper designs of the future to conceptual visions of the built environment, from science centers in Vietnam to Guggenheim museums in Finland — we've covered all the architectural highlights this year.

3. Jacques Rougerie Foundation International Competition results

The Jacques Rougerie Foundation recently revealed the results for their fourth International Architecture Competition, based on the Foundation's mission to provide creative opportunities for young architects and designers. The competition's topics focus on the elements of Water and Space. – read more

4. A closer look at Preliminary Research Office’s Bauhaus Museum Dessau entry

In preparation for the Bauhaus centennial anniversary in 2019, the Foundation Bauhaus Dessau and the City of Dessau-Roßlau announced the Bauhaus Museum Dessau open competition this past March. Yaohua Wang (whose intricate works we've previously featured), Dingliang Yang, Tianci Han, Shouquan Sun, and Yitao Wang of architecture practice Preliminary Research Office entered the global competition with their proposal "Bulging Wall(s)". – read more

5. Winners of the 2015 eVolo Skyscraper Competition

Year after year, the eVolo Skyscraper Competition continues to be a popular hit. The sky is indeed the limit for the worldwide competition, which gave participants complete freedom with their skyscraper designs. At the same time, entrants also had to examine the skyscraper's definition, purpose, and the potential for vertical living in the 21st century. – read more

6. Porsche Design selects winning proposal for Frankfurt Tower

Barkow Leibinger, Neutelings Riedijk, NMDA, Dominique Perrault, and Coop Himmelb(l)au were among a star-studded list of teams in a closed competition to design the Frankfurt Tower, an upcoming residential structure for luxury brand Porsche Design. In the end of the competition, the jury selected German firm Grüntuch Ernst Planungs­­gesell­­schaft from Berlin as the winner. – read more

8. Snøhetta and SANAA tie for New National Gallery and Ludwig Museum for Budapest

After a not-so-ideal turnout in its first run in 2014, The Museum of Fine Arts Budapest and the Városliget Zrt's Liget Budapest Design Competition 2.0 is a stark contrast! A few months after the architects for three of the development's buildings were announced, Snøhetta and SANAA tied for first prize for Budapest's soon-to-be-renovated National Gallery and Ludwig Museum. – read more

As research and technology advance, architects continue to blur the line between the built environment and nature. Back for its fourth edition, OPENGAP's INNATUR 4: Nature Interpretation Center ideas competition invited entrants around the globe to come up with new, minimally disruptive strategies that integrate architecture into a natural environment. – read more

10. Winning concept chosen for new University of Science and Technology Hanoi, Vietnam

The competition results were recently announced for the upcoming University of Science and Technology Hanoi in Vietnam. Organized by [phase eins], the competition started with a total of 47 applications, the jury shortlisted six proposals. Finally, the jury convened in December and selected French firm AS. Architecture Studio from Paris as the competition winner. – read more
