MVRDV and Woods Bagot propose 'The Stack' for Melbourne's Beulah Tower competition

MVRDV and Woods Bagot have proposed 'The Stack' for a landmark mixed-use site in Melbourne’s Southbank. The proposal is one of six invited entries in the Beulah Tower competition. The firms present a prism tower with public entrances on all sides, creating an open and sustainable design revolving around the idea of stacked neighborhoods for urban density.

From the street all the way to the seventy-sixth floor, the site will be developed as a lifestyle precinct, with apartments, offices, a hotel, an entertainment center, technological display centers, retail, and public green spaces.

The studios worked together to create a structure that encompasses all of Melbourne's amenities integrated through a sequence of interconnected public spaces. Starting from the edge of the Yarra River, the scheme calls for transforming Southbank Boulevard into an urban promenade. This wide pedestrian area with greenery, cafes, and terraces will lead into The Stack with wide footpaths.
