The Quad: A Design Competition to Create a Sustainable Social Space

The "Quad" Competition is an international call for a social space installation. Design proposals should capture the essence of social sustainability by addressing the three pillars of sustainability: environment, economy and equity. The winning installation will inhabit a 20'x70' space for informal gathering and display areas for research content by WHAT'S IN. Proposals should employ thoughtful and innovative exhibition and fabrication methods without sacrificing cost and feasibility of construction.

The winning proposal will be awarded $7,000 to premier the installation at ArchitectureBoston Expo (ABX) and Greenbuild Joint Expo in November of 2017, a 2-day event held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC). This competition is hosted by WHAT’S IN, a multi-disciplinary research initiative that advocates for urban density and housing affordability through design and policy.
