The Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House historic site presents Makers
in the Mansion: A Transformed African American Community at Woodlawn through
the Artisan Eye, an installation in our museum areas from June-October
2018. Featuring works by Nicole Crowder, Morgan Davis, Sondra Barrett Hassan,
Njena Surae Jarvis, Antonio McAfee, Hadiya Williams, and writer-in-residence
Cherryl T. Cooley, these local makers are helping to amplify the African
American voice at Woodlawn through their provocative pieces inspired by
Woodlawn’s transition from a large plantation to a free work colony in
1846-1860. Woodlawn is open for tours Friday-Monday, 11:00-3:00. For more information
on the exhibit, visit our website at www.woodlawnpopeleighey.org.
