On Saturday, January 12th from 10am to 2pm, Benjamin's Desk and Young Architects Forum will present a design charrette inviting all architects in the Philadelphia area. We are excited to announce that we are taking the 8th floor of the our building at 1701 Walnut Street with plans to be open for business in Summer 2013.
The event will be a creative process for attendees to help generate ideas for the new space. The 8th floor will be an extension of the current coworking space with four private offices, phone rooms, a conference room and open breakout spaces to facilitate a collaborative work environment. To help make the exercise even more interesting, all participants will be split into groups. Each group will then get the chance to pitch their solution to the Benjamin's Desk team.
After all presentations are made, 'Best Of' awards will be given including: Best Overall, Best Use of Material, and Best Pitch Design. The charrette is centered on design, teamwork and community. Following the event, Benjamin's Desk will have the right to utilize the ideas generated and may consult teams with the best concepts for additional input.
Haley Donovan, a full service architectural firm licensed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland specializes in affordable, sustainable residential design and site planning, and will be available to offer options during the charrette. Their experience and previous involvement in community based design charrettes will help guide attendees' ideas into something that is cost effective without compromising the aesthetic.
The event is held in conjunction with Young Architects Forum, a program of the American Institute of Architects and is organized to address issues of importance to recently licensed architects.
