Inside 2013 has announced this year's finalists. The tech-savvy competition was assembled by designers, professors and students to publicly promote the research, exploration and investigation currently happening in academia and today's emerging talent. It highlights the increasing dependence of the design process with social networking, cloud technology, and device culture, and also questions what it takes to distinguish oneself in today's online realm.
After looking through the enormous number of submissions, a group of finalists were selected for two categories: Future Voices and Emerging Talents. Current undergrad and post-grad students entered in the Future Voices category whereas Emerging Talents invited all young professionals under the age of 40 and upcoming firms younger than 15 years.
Along with the jury's decision, finalists were chosen by a public-viewing competition called "EyeTime" which captures and records the amount and type of viewing time an entrant's image receives. The public participated by downloading the EyeTime app.
The guest jury features Cheryl Durst (International Interior Design Association); Tim Maly (Wired Magazine); Diana Budds (Dwell Magazine, Associate Editor); Jill Fehrenbacher (Inhabitat, Editor in Chief); Mark Wilson (Fast Company Design); Connie Frances Avila (TEDx); Gregory Han (Apartment Therapy); Holly Becker (Decor 8); and Birgit Lohmann (Designboom, Editor in Chief). The competition was supported by the AIAS, IIDA, ADC, AIGA and hosted by The Morpholio Project.
Winners and Honorable Mentions will be announced on August 20 after Stage 02 of EyeTime ends. Below are some of the outstanding projects in both categories.
