Have you ever dreamed about going to school on an island? Now's your chance to draw out those ideas for Young Architects Competitions' latest contest, University Island.
A few kilometers from the San Marco bell tower in Venice sits the desert island of Poveglia. Having no connection to mainland Italy and with dark rumors abound, the island was eventually abandoned as visitors stopped traveling there. It remained that way for nearly 50 years until the Italian Government recently decided the island should be revived.
In light of this, YAC asks architects worldwide how they would transform Poveglia into a top research university campus where students can study and enjoy themselves. How's that for spring break.
The jury includes notable names like Peter Cook of CRAB STUDIO, Patrick Lüth of SNØHETTA, and Iannis Kandyliaris from BIG, to name a few. Prize winners will get to share €20,000.
Register and send your ideas now! Final submission deadline is June 15, 2016.
