Radical Middle Grounds: New Agendas for Medium-Density Housing

Friday, Nov 10, 202310 AM - 6 PMCST

310 Inner Campus Drive Austin, TX, US Austin, TX, US | 310 Inner Campus Drive

Join The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture for a conversation about the transformative potential of medium-density housing—housing between the established extremes of (suburban) houses and (urban) apartments that is characterized by incredible spatial malleability.

Organized by the Center for American Architecture and Design and Assistant Professor Martin Hättasch, the day-long symposium will bring together architects, historians, urban designers, and economists for conversations about housing as middle ground between unit and city, between form and process, and between enduring typology and design invention.

Expert panelists will also explore housing as a crucial link between how we live as individuals and what our cities look like, and how we might mine grey zones between established disciplines, practices, or processes to find new housing solutions.
