New architecture and design competitions: The Forge Prize, Independent Project Residency, Wege Prize, and Inspire Future Generations Awards

Open Call: 2025 Spring Independent Project Residency at the Block House
Registration/Submission Deadline: Saturday, September 21, 2024

"The IPA Independent Project Residency program invites emerging and mid-career practitioners – whose work focuses on the public realm – to live and work during an eleven week live-in Residency at the IPA Block House on Governors Island.  The Residency seeks to create new interdisciplinary opportunities for collective thinking by providing communal space for architects, urbanists, landscape architects, designers, climate researchers, and artists to live, work, and develop independent projects within the community of the residency.  Applicants will bring their own interests to the program and will have opportunities to engage with the public over the course of the Residency and will culminate in an exhibition of work at the Block House."

Wege Prize 2025
Registration/Submission Deadline: Sunday, October 6, 2024

"Wege Prize is an annual competition that ignites game-changing solutions for the future by inspiring college/university students around the world to collaborate across institutional, disciplinary, and cultural boundaries to redesign the way economies work. Participants contend for $65,000 (USD) in total cash prizes, all while learning—and helping to show the world—what the future of problem solving looks like."

Inspire Future Generations Awards 2024
Registration/Submission Deadline: Friday, October 25, 2024

"The Inspire Future Generations (IFG) Awards for 2024, now in their 4th year, continue to recognise and celebrate outstanding initiatives, organisations, and individuals who are bridging the gap between the built environment and young people. Each year the winning award entries will be added to the TET Resource Bank, sharing knowledge and examples."

The 2025 Forge Prize
Registration/Submission Deadline: Friday, November 22, 2024

"This competition, established by The American Institute of Steel Construction in 2018, recognizes visionary emerging architects, architecture faculty, and graduate students for design concepts that embrace innovations in steel as a primary structural component. [...] The Forge Prize is a unique opportunity to experiment with a conceptual design without limit to scope or complexity--the sky really is the limit here, and the industry is paying attention."
