This edition of Bustler's curated picks of noteworthy architecture and design competitions features four calls seeking proposals for a new, integrated Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Complex in Seoul, South Korea, innovative wooden climbing tower designs for goats, student-driven reinterpretations of forgotten or overlooked spaces, and architectural plans and concepts for the zones recently impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.

International Design Competition for the New Yeongdeungpo-gu Government Office Complex
Registration Deadline: Tuesday, July 22, 2025
Submission Deadline: Friday, September 26, 2025

"The Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Main Building is classified as an aging building, completed 49 years ago in 1976, and ongoing repair costs are incurred to prevent safety incidents and maintain facilities. Due to the cramped main building relative to growing administrative demand, facility operations have been dispersed across two annex buildings, causing inconvenience to the public and reducing administrative efficiency. Therefore, an integrated government office complex that organically links all facilities is required. Along with performing administrative tasks, the complex seeks to provide public services that support local residents’ cultural, educational, and community activities. By selecting from a wide range of ideas and works from both home and abroad, this project aims to foster pride among Yeongdeungpo-gu residents by creating a regional landmark with creative and symbolic design."

[...] Particular attention will be paid to the sustainability, reversibility and innovative nature of the timber connections."

The UIA – HYP ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS CUP 2025
Registration Deadline: Saturday, September 20, 2025
Submission Deadline: Friday, October 10, 2025

"Architecture has the power to reveal what’s hidden. The UIA – HYP ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS CUP 2025 invites students worldwide to reimagine forgotten or overlooked spaces — the nooks and crannies — as sites of transformation. This competition is more than a design challenge; it’s an invitation to engage deeply with the spaces that surround us — to observe, interpret, and act with freedom and creativity. Open to students only, this competition is an opportunity to share old projects or create new ones."

Call for Submissions — Architecture After the Fires: LA in Progress
Registration/Submission Deadline: Friday, July 18, 2025

"SCI-Arc's Resilient Futures Task Force is opening a call for submissions of architectural plans and concepts in the zones recently affected by wildfires. Works of any typology are accepted, and we invite submissions of in-progress projects as well as speculative or research-oriented works."
