Sign up now for YAC's Lighthouse Sea Hotel competition

For the most part, lighthouses like the one at Murro di Porco near Syracuse, Italy are a relic of the past — with many of them no longer in use. But as always, there's a creative solution to revamp such a structure. In their latest contest, Lighthouse Sea Hotel, Young Architects Competitions and the Italian government invite entrants worldwide to turn the historic Murro di Porco lighthouse into a seaside hotel.

The lighthouse of Murro di Porco was once lived-in but eventually became abandoned with the arrival of modern technologies. As the lighthouse remained unoccupied, it progressively deteriorated.

This competition challenges architects and designers to imagine a new future for these abandoned lighthouses by transforming them into memorable tourist spots, while also preserving the original beauty of the lighthouse and its seaside environment.

Submission deadline is February 29, 2016.
