As everyone eases into the summer season, why not spend that free time challenging yourself by entering a design competition. Although COVID-19 and other economic issues have continued to make headlines, efforts to address sustainability have remained a priority amongst the architecture community. If you're interested in pitching your best designs, ideas, and written works, Bustler has 6 competitions you shouldn't miss.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Sustainable Revolution

Register/Submit Deadline:  Sunday, Jun 21, 2020

The International Call for Submissions "Sustainable Revolution" is open to Architecture and Engineering Firms, Designers, Projects and Companies that are forward looking into the future and offering sustainable solutions and possibilities to the New World we will go to inhabit from here on out. Selected projects and submissions will be included in the exhibition "Sustainable Revolution" organized by Zuecca Projects in Venice,  from August 28 to October 30, 2020 .

THE HUMANKIND: AFTER COVID-19
Presented by: theARK.design
Registration Deadline:  Tuesday, Jul 21, 2020
Submission Deadline:  Monday, Aug 10, 2020

Propose a visionary project that helps to revive the economy of a region, city or community affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. In a perfect harmony of architecture, economy and environment, the competition aims to generate visionary ideas that mark the after of the pandemic and inspire different organizations to draw up a “PLAN B” for the world economy. The proposal address one or more solutions for economic problems that emerged from the COVID-19 outbreak (e.g., jobs generation, unemployment, housing, reactivation for sectors like tourism, cultural or sports, support local business and entrepreneurs, macro-solutions for public spaces, etc).

Reimagining Museums for Climate Action
Presented by: The UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Heritage Priority Area
Registration Deadline:  Friday, Jul 31, 2020
Submission Deadline:  Tuesday, Sep 15, 2020

Reimagining Museums for Climate Action asks designers, architects, academics, artists, poets, philosophers, museum professionals and the public at large to radically (re)imagine and (re)design the museum as an institution, to help bring about more equitable and sustainable futures in the climate change era. The competition aims to explore how museums can help society transform to a low carbon future, adapt to the impacts of climate change, and safeguard ecosystems.

WARMING Architecture Competition
Presented by: Arch Out Loud
Registration Deadline:  Sunday, Aug 2, 2020
Submission Deadline:  Monday, Aug 3, 2020

WARMING calls on students and professionals from the fields of architecture, planning, and design to submit projects that respond to our changing climate and the environment. WARMING competition participants are asked to propose new or adapted architecture that addresses issues of global warming. Participants are free to experiment and explore the subject - designs can be of any program, any scale, and on any site.

Land Art Generator Initiative 2020: Design the Future of Fly Ranch
Presented by: Land Art Generator Initiative and Burning Man Project
Register/Submit Deadline:  Saturday, Oct 31, 2020

The project is open to everyone everywhere, and seeks creative solutions to systems of energy, water, food, shelter, and regeneration. You are invited to propose your regenerative artwork in this unique and stunning landscape. LAGI 2020 Fly Ranch will expand on this portfolio of blueprints for the future by challenging creative interdisciplinary teams to propose artworks that will provide the food, water, shelter, power, and closed-loop systems for life on Fly Ranch.

ESSAY COMPETITION: What is Sustainable Architecture?

Bee Breeders, in partnership with ARCHHIVE BOOKS, is calling for essay submissions for their next print publication “What is Sustainable Architecture?”, which is planned for release in spring 2021. Submissions from participants related to any field or discipline are welcome.  Selected winners will receive monetary awards and will be included in the ARCHHIVE BOOKS “What is Sustainable Architecture?” print publication.
