Continuing with our weekly highlights of noteworthy architecture and design competitions listed on Bustler, we have selected a number of new challenges that stood out this week.

It is expected to make KMFA a museum that can keep up with the times in terms of both hardware and software, becoming a real international exhibition venue. Different from the planning concept of traditional art museums, the 21st-century art museums emphasize publicity and focus on "people." The museum is no longer just a sacred temple but integrates into daily life. It is a generator of urban creativity and an international platform. From the pure aesthetic to a serial compound, it combines the land texture and the local characteristics, developing a unique large art museum park. The new space will be more open, accessible, and public.

Open International Competition for Recreational Infrastructure Elements Design in Gyumri Friendship Park

The Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA) Foundation launches an Open International Competition for Recreational Infrastructure Elements Design in Gyumri Friendship Park. The competition is a part of the integrated development and restoration of Gyumri within Armenia 2020 Initiative. The competition is aimed at selecting the best architectural and planning solutions reflecting the city’s identity and conveying the idea of international collaboration. The design of recreational infrastructure elements will help talented architects from across the globe to co-create a modern public venue and diversify the city’s territory.

AIA Film Challenge 2020

Design has the power to solve some of the biggest issues facing cities today. We believe these stories are among the most important stories we can tell. The AIA Film Challenge is a film contest that amplifies these stories—architects partnering with communities and civic leaders to design a healthy, sustainable, just world that improves lives. The challenge is open to everyone. Use your smartphone or computer to produce a 60- to 90-second mini documentary. You could win up to $7,000!

Competition for Architectural Ideas to Prepare for the Post-COVID-19 Era

COVID-19 is making a lot of changes in our lives. In a society where “social distancing” has become a way of daily life, the existing city, architecture, various daily life spaces, and ways of life cannot help but change. Therefore, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is promoting various space ideas as well as concepts for architecture, the city, and landscape that can respond to a pandemic such as COVID-19, and the changes in daily life in the post-COVID-19 era.

Warming Huts: An Art + Architecture Competition On Ice v.2021
Register/Submit Deadline: Tuesday, Oct 6, 2020
Three teams will be selected as winners of the WARMING HUTS COMPETITION: Arts + Architecture Competition on Ice from submissions of designs for a warming hut or art installation. Winning entries will be placed along the River Trail located on the Assiniboine and Red rivers in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A jury will select the winning designs based on their creativity in use of materials, providing shelter, poetics of assembly and form, integration with the landscape, and ease of construction.

LA+ CREATURE INTERNATIONAL OPEN DESIGN IDEAS COMPETITION

How can we use design to open our cities, our landscapes, and our minds to a more symbiotic existence with other species? LA+ CREATURE asks entrants to choose a nonhuman client and design something—a place, a structure, a product, a process, a system—to improve its life and increase human–nonhuman empathy. Your creature can be any species, any size, and live anywhere in the world.
