The winners of Australia's 2021 National Architecture Awards were announced Thursday in a live-streamed ceremony from the Australian Institute of Architects.
This year marks the 40th edition of the awards. The jury noted that this edition presented a "rare" crop of public architecture, with notable works from Neeson Murcutt + Neille, Cox Architecture, and Kerry Hill. Projects ranged from a military barracks in Queensland to a coastal retreat in Malaysia. Winners were selected from the shortlist announced in September. A total of 30 awards were given out across the platform's ten categories.
"These awards attest to our profession’s inventiveness, imagination, pulchritude, and multiplicity,” Chair Alice Hampson said in a statement. “Collectively, this year’s awarded works exhibit the richness, intelligence, viscerality, complexity, individuality, and delight of which Australian architecture is capable."
