Re-imagining Cumbernauld

"The Glasgow Institute of Architects have launched an ideas competition encouraging the re-use of the existing Cumbernauld megastructure, and opposing the demolition approach proposed by the local authority. This competition hopes to provide alternatives to demolition and identify ideas for uses that will distinguish Cumbernauld Town Centre from others; making a successful special place; continuing its founding ambition as a visionary place to live and exploring what that is in the 21st Century; considering the retention of parts or all of the existing town centre and saving embodied carbon; providing a centre for the community."

"The competition is divided into 2 tasks, one is to make an overall urban design optimization and enhancement, the second is to make a detailed urban design of the Future City. The competition aims to collect urban design schemes that are forward-looking, innovative, and implementation-oriented to help promote the high grade, high standard, and high-quality construction and development of Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone."

"Jamsu Bridge, being the shortest and lowest bridge across the Han River, boasts excellent accessibility on foot. Its advantageous features, such as a roof and shade, are shared with Banpo Bridge. Furthermore, its proximity to the water surface offers vast potential for transforming it into a distinctive civic leisure and cultural space. Participants are encouraged to propose innovative designs and utilization plans for Jamsu Bridge, considering the hydrological and ecological characteristics of the Han River, the bridge's structural and functional aspects, and the new leisure space it will provide for citizens. Additionally, participants are urged to suggest ways to connect the surrounding area with the water space."

"The annual Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) is a global architecture award recognizing design excellence. The AMP was created to advance the appreciation and exposure of quality architectural design worldwide.
