Take a breather at an exhibition or listen in on a panel discussion during the holiday frenzy. Wondering where other design-inclined folks are gathering in the Greater Los Angeles area? Bustler has compiled a snappy list of noteworthy happenings around town that are not to be missed.

SoCal Storylines: Innovating for our communities | December 14, recommended by Amelia Taylor-Hochberg

California's economy is the 8th biggest in the world – how can Southern California hold up the legacy of innovation that fuels the state's development? This discussion with members of KPCC and the Urban Land Institute will look at how LA in particular contributes to the So-Cal region's unique culture, and what that means for future development.

Rick Owens: Furniture | Opening on December 17, recommended by Justine Testado

Get up close to a collection of recent furniture and sculpture pieces by renowned fashion designer Rick Owens, whose “brutal yet elegant” works draw inspiration from a range of art historical sources. Opening at MOCA this Saturday, this exhibition highlights Owens' latest ventures in using foam, rock crystal, and concrete in addition to his signature materials of choice.

The Underground Museum: Non-fiction | Open now until March 1, 2017, recommended by Alexander Walter

Located in the mid-city neighborhood of Arlington Heights, you will stumble upon an unexpected MOCA collaboration in this otherwise residential area just north of the 10: The Underground Museum. Currently on view is the exhibition Non-fiction presenting a selection of works from MOCA's permanent collection that “investigate, either explicitly or implicitly, the culture of violence perpetrated on black citizens.”
