American Society of Landscape Architects unveils 2025 Honors recipients

The American Society of Landscape Architects has unveiled its class of 2025 Honor recipients. Selected by the ASLA’s board of trustees, the individuals and firms “represent the most noteworthy professionals nationwide,” according to the society.
“This class of honorees are the best of the best in landscape architecture,” ASLA president Kona Gray said about the cohort. “They have incredible vision, are leaders among their peers and set a high bar for excellence.”
The 2025 ASLA Honors recipients are as follows:
- The ASLA Medal: Michael Van Valkenburgh, FASLA, PLA, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc.
- The ASLA Design Medal: Jeffrey Carbo, FASLA, PLA JCLA Studio
- The Community Service Award–Organizational: Coastal Dynamics Design Lab at NC State University
- The Community Service Award –Individual: Matthew Potteiger, ASLA, SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry
- The Jot D. Carpenter Teaching Medal: Charlene LeBleu, FASLA, Auburn University
- The LaGasse Medal — Professional: Mark Hough, FASLA, PLA Duke University
- The LaGasse Medal — Nonprofessional: Charles F. "Chuck" Sams III, Northwest Power and Conservation Council
- The Landscape Architecture Firm Award: SCAPE
- The ASLA Medal of Excellence: Frederick Steiner, FASLA, University of Pennsylvania
- The Olmsted Medal: Chicago Region Trees Initiative, The Morton Arboretum
- The ASLA Emerging Professional Medal: Maria Fernanda “MaFe” Gonzalez, Associate ASLA, BASE Landscape Architecture
Honorary ASLA Members:

The six honorary members inducted by ASLA are non-landscape architecture professionals recognized for notable service to the profession. Since its inception in 1899, ASLA has inducted only 267 honorary members.
