The American Institute of Architects has selected New York-based firm Architecture Research Office (ARO) to receive the highest honor the organizations bestows on a design practice, the AIA Architecture Firm Award.
Founded in 1993, ARO's principals Stephen Cassell, Kim Yao, and Adam Yarinsky have grown the studio into an award-winning practice with an eclectic portfolio of projects.
"ARO’s atmosphere is one of collaboration and shared ideas, and its studio environment reflects that commitment," praises the AIA in today's announcement.
"It is not uncommon to find the firm’s young designers participating in client meetings while project directors are leading design, delivery, and operational initiatives. Since its founding, more than 25 former employees have moved on to establish their own practices, and ARO continues to provide mentorship to these young firms."
The practice will be honored at the 2020 AIA Conference on Architecture in Los Angeles together with Marlon Blackwell who was announced as the 2020 AIA Gold Medal recipient today.
