The 17th Concrete Architecture Awards, organized by the Federal Association of the German Cement Industry, raised to the highest level of excellence this year. The competition called for entries in cooperation with the Federation of German Architects (BDA).
The Concrete Architecture Award was created in 1974 to honor out-of-the-ordinary concrete constructions. Alongside the optimum combination of design and construction, the most important criterion for the award is the harmonious integration of the building into the surrounding built-up area or landscape.
This time, the jury, presided by renowned Hamburg-based architect Jan Störmer, had to judge 121 entries. Seldom, so the judges, were the outstanding entries so close to each other like in this year. Thus, the separation between prizes and citations is rather fluent. Three prizes were given, as well as four citations.
